It looks like Miss Colombia is still relishing in those two minutes where she was named Miss Universe thanks to Steve Harvey's announcement mistake. Critics are totally bashing Ariadna Gutierrez for keeping photos of herself wearing the crown on Instagram -- see some tweets here! Ariadna Gutierrez still isn't ready to give up her dream of being Miss Universe. In fact, she's even kept photos up on Instagram of herself from the quick moment where she was able to wear the crown and sash after Steve Harvey mistakenly announced her as the winner...and some social media users think it's REALLY weird.
“This moment will always be with me #missuniverse #misscolombia #backtoback,” she (or someone on her team, at least) wrote on Instagram after Steve named her the champion. The image is a photo collage of herself waving to the crowd while holding a giant bouquet of flowers and wearing the $300,000 Miss Universe crown, with a photo of herself excitedly hugging Paulina Vega sandwiched in between.
What she doesn’t mention though, is that almost immediately after this all went down, host Steve revealed that he’d made a massive error, and it was actually Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, who was supposed to be the winner. Obviously, Ariadna was totally devastated over the whole situation, and although she stayed classy and gracious in the public eye, many fear that she’s taking this a whole lot harder than she’s let on.
“I do think that she’s very affected by all this,” Colombia’s general consul to New York admitted. “I just think that when I was in my 20s and was in her situation, I would take a little while to recover.” Colombians are even worried that Ariadna’s sadness could turn into a complete mental breakdown — yiiikes.
Meanwhile, Pia is slowly becoming comfortable with showing her excitement over the win, even though it came at the price of Ariadna’s heartbreak. Unfortunately, the whole situation has reportedly caused a major rift between Latina contestants and Miss Philippines, as the latter are allegedly blaming Pia for the whole thing. “I hope I didn’t upset anybody, especially the Latino community and fans of Miss Colombia,” Pia told TMZ. “Im the voice of Miss Universe now, and I’d like to send my apologies for any confusion that happened. I hope this doesn’t affect your relationship with Miss Universe or your relationship with the Filipino community, as well.”
