Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was born on December 28, 2001 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. She began acting in school plays and ultimately decided to pursue a career in acting. She recently gained recognition for her lead role in the Netflix series Never Have I Ever, which started airing in 2020.

Creator Mindy Kaling chose her out of over 15,000 candidates who auditioned for the role at an open casting call for the series. Her performance in the show was well-received by both critics and audiences alike. This year, she also appeared as herself in the program Sidewalks Entertainment.
